Windsurfing: May to September is the best period for surfing in Sri Lankan beach as the winds are strongest during this period. Arugam bay on the east coast in is Sri Lanka's best beach for surfing. This is according to the testimonials provided by many. Other beaches famous for surfing are Hikkaduwa on the southwestern coast and Bentota on the western coast. These beaches are highly attracted places buy many tourists for the last many years and are fully covered with all surfing gears such as surfboards, boogie boards, and wetties. Don’t worry about carrying your own one as you can hire all makes and sizes at the convenient shops that are located in the areas.

Most of them speak basic Japanese as they have entertained many Japanese, tourists for the last years. So you will feel homely.

  Diving & Snorkeling: There are several dive sites along Sri Lanka's coastline where one gets an opportunity to see fantastic marine life such as corals, ship wrecks, myriad tropical fish, coral fish, angle fish and puffer fish. Hikkaduwa which is the best spot light and Tangalla on the west coast, Unawatuna on the south coast and Nilaveli on the east coast are wonderful places for scuba diving and snorkeling. The best time for diving and snorkeling on the west coast is from November to April and on the east coast is from April to September.


Rafting & Canoeing: Sri Lanka by nature has provided hundreds of rivers and small streams that originate from hills and offer excellent water sports facilities. Some of the rivers such as Kelani River in Kitulgala, southwest of Kandy, are very popular among tourists for rafting purposes.

Scuba Diving
South and East and the surrounding areas in Sri Lanka rank among the top 10 scuba-diving destinations. Cool and breezing water, excellent underwater visibility, myriad varieties of marine life, plus a chance of swimming with whale sharks and manta rays. The deep blue, clear waters of the South Sea are ideal for game fish, and the region is on the migratory paths of classic fighting fish such as marlin and this is one of the top venues.
